SARS Coronavirus is a virus completely studied in 2003 and originating in the Asian continent.
Not originally a human pathogen, it underwent a species jump from a fruit bat (the Rinholophus) to another unidentified animal.
The epidemic is thought to have started in Guagdong, China and subsequently spread like wildfire around the world in a matter of days.
It is an aggressive virus, which attacks a large number of cells such as neurons, lymphocytes, intestinal and renal mucous membranes and pulmonary alveoli. This is why it has a large (and serious) number of possible symptoms.
Curiosity: By repeating what they have done with Ebola, the scientists have created an online game, Foldit, which involves finding an increasingly suitable molecule as a puzzle game to fight the disease. Millions of players have joined the research, creating a wealth of information equal to months and months of research in no time.
